Lamb, beef & game
The Ontanon Rioja Reserva has an abundance of flavour notes of deep, dark fruit combined with structured acidity, minerality and earthy notes. This wine is perfect for those Sunday roast or Mushroom risotto; think big hearty meals.
Bodegas Ontañón vis located in the highest and driest region within the three Rioja regions. Rioja Baja. This region is heavily influenced by the Mediterranean Sea helping to keep the grapes cool in the hottest parts of the day and warm in the depths of night. Ontañón’s vineyards cover 250ha of the Baja region and most of the vines position themselves in higher altitudes which have been recognised as being one of the best in the whole in Rioja.
The Reserva is only made in exceptional years where the grapes are of superb quality; the Tempranillo and Graciano undergo a long maceration to extract the colour, tannins and most of all flavour. After this maceration, the wine spends 12 months in 60% American and 40% French oak (both New and older barrels), followed by 24 months in bottle before release this allows the wine to relax and be enjoyed straight away.
